St Rita Community Based Orphan Care

The organization's mission is to offer sustainable Home-Based Orphan support. The main purpose of forming the Womens group was to bring its members together so as to enhance their social and financial support towards the needy members of the community. This was mainly identified to be children who had been left as orphans after loss of their loved parents as a result of HIV/AIDS and related illnesses. Some of these children are left under the care of aged grandparents who had exhausted their resources on their daughters and sons while undergoing treatment.

Although the group was started by less than four members, its membership has increased to fifteen. The group strategizes its support by engaging each member to take care of between 2-3 orphans. This is done through support in clothing, education and food.

The group is located in West Kolwa, Nyalenda B sub-location in Winam Division of Kisumu District, Kenya.

Msumarini Welfare Group Trust

 Website: http://www.msumarini.org/

Msumarini is a small village, north of Mombasa on the east coast of Kenya, East Africa. The village has grown considerably in the last 15 years through population growth and the arrival of tourism to the immediate area.

The Msumarini Welfare Group Trust is a charity established in Kenya in 2004. Its main purpose is to provide for the people of  Msumarini who were affected by the suicide bombing by Al Qaeda in a nearby hotel in 2002.  Ten Kenyans were killed in the bombing, and the livelihood of all villagers was negatively impacted. The Msumarini Welfare Trust was formed, funds were raised, land was purchased and a clinic was built. The Dispensary/Clinic now offers medical services to the village and surrounding areas.

Kuweni Serious: Getting the Kenyan youth to take a serious look at chaos in their society

Twitter; @kuweniserious
Website http://www.kuweniserious.org/

Kenya’s youth have largely been characterized as hedonistic generation of brand-obsessed youth, moving from party to party in the night and congregating on Facebook during the day – using TV, music and brands as our badges, our ID. We’re the Moi generation – the ones who grew up on the now-defunct “Maziwa ya Nyayo” school milk. We watched our parents root for and obtain multi-partyism, and we watched the country shrivel up and almost die under years of Moi’s rule.

Kuweni serious intends to "seek out all the young people out there who are trying to make sense of all this, the youth groups, the activists, the people who read the news and get so annoyed that they write angry status updates on Facebook, the students, the guys and girls who’ve just landed their first job and have been hit hard by the realities of the economy. We want your opinions, we want your stories. We don’t know what we’ll find, we might step on a few toes, but we’ll do our best. "
